About us

PSB Fitness was founded by myself (Jessie) and my buddy Matt, we met at Sheridan College, and we’ve been inseparable since. Matt is a certified personal trainer with 5 years of experience and 15 existing clients. I have 7 years of experience as a fitness instructor at the top gyms in the world.

Fitness has changed our lives, it has made us feel great physically and mentally, along with boosting our confidence. It has provided us with purpose and has helped us create and tighten bonds in our relationships. Our goal is to spread the health benefits of exercise to as many people as we can. We created PSB Fitness together to make exercising easy and convenient for everyone. We believe that with the use of technology we can make it easier than ever to educate and help people live active and healthy lives.

 

Affordable Prices!

PSB Fitness offers three types of payment options.

  1. $6 for a day pass. You get to work out without committing to a whole contract.
  2. $30 a month. This is a reoccurring fee that you can cancel at any time.
  3. $100 for an entire semester (4 months). For those that need some exercise to relieve the stress of a busy semester.

 

Studio

PSB Fitness offers a variety of training equipment. We have treadmills and exercise bikes for those focused on burning calories and body fat, and who want to strengthen their cardio. There is also classic gym equipment like benches and squat racks along with a variety of dumbbells for those who are looking to add muscle. We even have a variety of machines with simple instructions to follow for ease of use. PSB Fitness also has private rooms for group classes because exercising in groups is usually more fun. We have locker rooms for men, women, and trans individuals.

Technology

Our group classes are guided by advanced virtual trainers which means you and your friends can come anytime to have fun and intense workouts. Don’t worry though, these classes have a variety of difficulty levels which means whether you are a beginner or advanced, we will have classes for you. We have aerobic- and strength-based classes along with yoga classes. We also have tablets around the gym that members get access to that could provide workout routines and proper form for exercises. Members of the gym can get access to this app on their own devices. Members can get access to virtual classes online and in person.

 

Community

There’s a special type of bond that is created when a group struggles, sweats, grinds, and fights their way through a tough workout. PSB fitness was founded by two Sheridan alumni fitness professions. After being in the fitness industry for over a decade, they have decided to share their experience on improving once fitness. What is PSB Fitness?

PSB Fitness is a gym experience made for college students. It was founded by two men who graduated Sheridan college. Their names are Jessie and Matt. Combined they have 12 years of fitness experience. Jessie has 7 years experience as a fitness instructor and Matt has 5 years as a certified personal trainer. Their goal is was to create the affordable Mississauga college gym students use to say healthy. And over time we improved on that.

We have two locations that students can attend. These locations are very accessible to the students that attend Sheridan college.Both these locations provide the same amenities and quality.

Cardio:

Since the dawn of humans cardio has been a staple of an exercise. Cardio is a great way to get your heart going and your blood pumping. We know that college students tend to sit down all day because studying is time consuming, but cardio can actually help you study, and at PSB Fitness we know that. Our cardio classes do a number of exercises from more intense exercises like running, jump squats and stair climbs to less intense but still enjoyable exercises like dancing, jump rope and jumping jacks. Aerobics:

Aerobics is all about building your muscle strength. Doing aerobics is a great way to build up the confidence to move that heavy object you’ve been meaning to move for a while. Our aerobics classes focus on building your overall muscle strength. We do exercises like squats, pushups, plank, and glute bridges. Volleyball:

Volleyball is a classic sport that really does not need an introduction. Volleyball is a great way to test your strength, mind and agility. You will go head to head against other teams and learn from our instructors to be able to be the best player you can be. You will also meet a lot of new faces and will have to work together with other classmates to beat the opposition. This is our biggest team oriented activity at PSB Fitness.  Balancing School and the Gym for Student Fitness

Students have a very busy life. They must juggle multiple responsibilities while maintaining their grades, mental health, work, and more. Amongst such a busy life oftentimes students aren’t able to find time for the gym. In order to incorporate the gym, students must create a schedule that will help them balance everything.

A common misconception is that in order to see results from the gym you must go every day. In reality go to the gym every day, for students to the corporate gym into their schedules thing to pick up certain days that work for them and keep them consistent. . We suggest speaking with a fitness instructor that will help students create a workout plan that will work with their busy schedule.

That way working out will not come in the way of their other priorities. Another great way to do it so be able to include the gym into their workout it’s by finding gym guys conveniently located near their school are home.  Our gym is located on two Sheridan College campuses. Mental Health, Its Connection to the Gym and Students

Mental health has gained the importance that it has needed in recent years. Everyone is slowly becoming more self-aware and understanding that mental health is as important as physical health. New ways to help people deal with their mental health needs have been created. While some ways are new the gym is not one of them. Only recently has the tie between mental health and the gym has been brought to everyone’s attention.

Maintaining or achieving one’s body physically is very helpful. It helps create a positive body image which in turn affects mental health. Our gym is located near Sheridan College which is convenient for students as they can help their mental health and release stress by visiting the gym.

 

Menstruation and the Gym

 Billions of women experience periods around the world. Many say that when women are on the period they should not work out. That is not true, women can work out while on their period. It is entirely up to the woman if she would like to work out or not, for instance, some experience way more extreme periods than others.

We encourage our gym members to get in contact with a fitness instructor and learn certain exercises that will help in elevating periods of pain and make their workouts fit them.

How does fitness impact learning

Yoga Class

As people pay more and more attention to their health. Therefore, People keep their bodies fit by exercising. For youths, exercise benefits their brain development. However, for older people, it might slow down the rate of aging to keep a healthy body and good somatic function. Then, what does regular exercise benefits students? Why does proper exercise help effective learning?

The reason for an effective learning state comes from two aspects. They are the physical and psychological states. In the aspect of psychological state, it’s necessary for students to have a relaxing and joyful mood. Because it is better for students to grasp knowledge. In other words, The happiness that exercises bring to them improves their motivation to study.

On the other hand, fitness does some positive influence on our body. Firstly, physical exercise releases proteins in the brain. It can help improve memory and increase cognitive performance. Secondly, the oxygen and glucose in the blood that is gained from exercise are typically what the brain needs for functioning at a high speed.

In the previous blog, we discussed how Yoga helps with mental and physical health. Reliving stress and enhancing metabolism is also the key reason for effective learning. So we may say that proper exercise has a positive impact on learning to a great extent.

Moreover, Practicing yoga will not increase the burden on the body but can relieve fatigue. In the process of practicing yoga, the combination of movement and music allows you to focus on your breathing. It also helps you completely forget the fatigue of work and the fatigue of exercise.

Try to have a few set beginner workouts or exercises that you would like to test out before you head into the gym! This can be found be either looking online or on the PSB website where we have articles about various beginner-friendly workout and fitness plans. It can be hard to stay on track with your fitness routine. Meal plan generator based on macros is the most effective way to meal plan. Working out is only half the battle, the other is keeping up with your nutrition. This is why, PSG gym located in Mississauga Ontario, is launching their very own PSG Nutrition App.

The PSG Nutrition app feature will generate meal plans according to your fitness needs. How it works is you plug in your fitness goals, and it will calculate your macros. From there the app generates meal plans according to your macro calculations. It does not stop there… in the app you will also be given different meal plan recipes so that you can follow the exact meal prep process.

Studies have shown that eating a balanced diet can contribute to better physical health, but also better mental health. It’s important to know that 80% of fitness gains is done in the kitchen. Food is an essential part of our everyday lives and having a meal plan generator based on your macros is even more essential. So, let PSG Nutrition App be a part of your fitness and nutritional journey.

Using the Meal Plan Generator App

Once you download the app you will have to do a 5 min quiz so that we can determine your personal fitness goals. Your current weight, age, and gender will be taken into account for the macros calculation. Once the quiz is done you will receive hundreds of potential meal plans that you get to chose from. So, if you’re a picky eater, or someone who’s balling on a budget, there is no need to worry, we got you covered.

Weight training can be daunting if you’re new to it, but PSB Fitness is here to help you become the healthiest version of yourself. Located right in the Sheridan College campus in Mississauga, PSB Fitness has an affordable STUDENT gym membership price for those who are just starting their fitness journey. Here are some tips for beginner weightlifters.

1. Prep prep prep

Prep is very important whether you’re a beginner or a pro at weight training. Make sure to prep your muscles before working out to wake them up and help you perform better. You can prep by stretching or doing warm-up exercises.

2. Form is everything

Proper form is crucial to ensure you’re engaging the right muscles and you’re not injuring yourself. At PSB Fitness, we have seasoned personal trainers to help you nail your form and make the most out of your workout. They watch you in real-time and give pointers or tips to make sure you have the proper form and maximize your gains.

3. Start light

To further help you nail your form, you need to start with light weights or even just your body weight. Your body needs to get used to doing certain movements and starting with light weights will set you up for success.

4. Don’t go overboard

As much as we want to see you at PSB Fitness every day, it’s best to start gradually. Start by going a few days a week, doing full-body workouts. Do a little bit of every muscle group to keep a balanced workout, then slowly add in days when you want to focus on a specific muscle group. As you progress, you can start dedicating each workout to one muscle group to build strength in that area and to give your other muscles some time to rest.

5. Take a rest day when you need to

You’ll likely be sore after your first few workouts. Listen to your body and take a day off when you’re feeling sore so you can still work out later that week. Give your body and muscles some time to recover so you can come back to the gym stronger. If you’re feeling too sore after a workout, that’s a sign you might be doing too much, and you can go easier at the gym.

The gym has designated areas for weightlifting and is sectioned off by muscle group. We also have designated areas for prep where you can foam roll and stretch. Everyone has their choice of cardio, and we have several cardio machine options as well as an indoor track. We have plenty of space for everyone at this gym, so you don’t feel crowded.
